DURGA SHAKTI EPISODE-WHOSE FIGHT IS IT

A young officer, irrespective of his /her gender, brings an enthusiasm which sustains itself in spite of the falling in line pedagogy followed by the stalwarts experienced in the ways of the world. The case of Durga Shakti is of a young officer within the system trying to correct what has gone wrong without realizing that not just some component of the system but the whole ecosystem needs an overhaul. The differentiation between right - wrong, moral -immoral, justice -injustice has blurred and perhaps become irrelevant. The need is to redefine the whole gamut of what comprise of the value systems, this will perhaps reduce the pain and the newer generation will adapt to the redefined value systems not feeling guilty or teary eyed for any such cases of conflict between right and wrong.

Everyone who do not matter in the scheme of things seem to be sympathizing with the officer and hails her as a lone crusader. In the absence of any other interesting stories this means that the charade will continue for a few more days and then be forgotten in the day to day existential crisis faced by the human kind. Durga Shakti Nagpal is symbolic of the old school of thought with perhaps a misconceived notion of right and wrong. Also, unfortunately, her name forces her to lose the shield of secularism in the highly secular backdrop of Uttar Pradesh.

The question is not as to what will happen to her in the coming days as far as bureaucratic actions are concerned, the question is what will happen to the fearlessness of this symbol. Will she crumble, adapt or will she wait for an opportune time to bounce back and still uphold her old and perhaps irrelevant value systems. She is too young to have faced the wrath of the highest authorities which makes her a pariah among her own circle. One thing is for sure none of her cadre , batch mate can afford being seen with her. The blatant misuse of power by the highest authority and the alacrity with which the Chief Minister of the state defends the suspension of a Sub Divisional Magistrate speaks tons about the mood of the political class in redefining the moral values.

Might is Right need to replace Satyamev Jayate (Truth Always Prevails) so that I can teach my child the evolutionary phase of human value system and not burden him with historical and obsolete values which our parents in their naivety tried to inspire in us.
